A Verse on the Forehead of the Revolution
By Dr. Zaher Baadarani
Verse: “They say, ‘None will enter Paradise except one who is a Jew or a Christian.’ These are their desires. Say, ‘Produce your proof, if you are truthful.’”

This verse highlights a dangerous illness that has spread within our nation: the claim of exclusive salvation. Just as Jews and Christians once declared that only their followers would enter Paradise, today some Muslims adopt the same attitude—believing only those who share their exact beliefs will be saved. But Allah refutes them: “These are their desires.”

Sadly, disagreements among Muslims have often escalated from minor issues to personal attacks, then to hatred, and even to takfir (accusing others of disbelief). Some turn scholarly debates into opportunities to defame and insult.

We must remember: our scholars—though influential—are not infallible. We should neither glorify them blindly nor attack them unjustly.

The verse reminds us not to repeat the errors of past nations. Syria’s future depends on mutual acceptance and intellectual dialogue—not violence or exclusion.
