Allah describes those who traded guidance for error: corrupters and hypocrites who confuse mediation with hypocrisy. Their trade failed; they were not guided.
Verse of the day: Allah Almighty says:
"Those are the ones who have exchanged guidance for error, so their trade has brought no profit, nor were they guided."
(Quran, Al-Baqarah 2:16)
Who are those mentioned by Allah in this verse?
They are the ones who traded guidance for misguidance.
The two groups discussed in the previous episodes fall under this description.
The first group: the corrupters—there is a big difference between a corrupter and a reformer.
The second group: those who confused mediation with hypocrisy. There is a great difference between the two:
Mediation is commendable and praiseworthy, while hypocrisy is blameworthy and rejected, because the former has a positive outcome, and the latter a negative one.
Thus, both groups deserve a divine mark describing their state, as Allah says:
"Those are the ones who have exchanged guidance for error, so their trade has brought no profit, nor were they guided." (Al-Baqarah 2:16)
