Shared Living

"Shared living in Syria: Rebuilding relationships across diverse communities for a peaceful and unified future."

When a society genuinely seeks to live freely and securely—not just coexist—the concept of shared living becomes essential.

It builds a solid foundation based on mutual respect and cooperation among people living under one state, regardless of differences in culture, traditions, or beliefs, and across ethnic, religious, and sectarian lines.

Shared living also reflects the ability of a people to unify—or at least converge—their perspectives toward common goals by identifying, strengthening, and building upon shared values.
This ensures that both major and minor differences are managed through peaceful, constructive means, far from violence and divisive polarizations.

Thus, shared living is not a mere theoretical ideal to be romanticized—especially not in Syria, a country emerging from a war that fractured its unity and nearly destroyed the concept altogether.
The war proved that rhetoric alone is no substitute for real-world practice.

True shared living requires genuine, rigorous efforts from civil society actors to guide state institutions and social forces toward a well-structured action plan.
This must be grounded in strategic vision, informed by research and scholarly expertise, executed through cumulative efforts and practical commitment, and driven by a genuine, independent national spirit—one that seeks to confront challenges in ways aligned with reality, striving for a more open and tolerant society.

Accordingly:

* We aim to restore the bright image of Syrians practicing genuine shared living—marked by dignity, generosity, and impartial kindness toward all communities.

* We believe in the pluralistic nature of Syrian society—urban and rural, Arabs, Kurds, Syriacs, Circassians, Assyrians, Sunnis, Shiites, Christians, Druze, Alawites, Ismailis, Yazidis, leftists, rightists, centrists, nationalists, progressives, conservatives, party members, and independents.

* We believe in embedding the principle of pluralism and freedom of difference as an inspiring national asset—not a source of division or weakness. Shared living, for any nation, reflects the deep-rooted continuity of its diverse heritage.
* We believe that the primary responsibility lies with the state and its institutions to treat all citizens equally and fairly—enhancing public interest, maintaining public order, and preventing harm to the people.

* We base our approach on upholding every individual’s right to personal convictions while enforcing agreed-upon laws as the sole governing framework between citizens and the state.

* We consider civil society the rightful custodian of shared living and the safeguard against the authoritarian state or individuals who seek to disrupt diversity.

* We consider constructive dialogue among varied communities the healthiest way to address worldly affairs and shared interests.

* We extend our hand to all state institutions, parties, movements, or research centers that prioritize the public good—working together to achieve the goal of true shared living within one homeland.
