Religious Values

"A vision for protecting freedom of belief and equality, and building a social contract that guarantees religious pluralism in Syria".

Forming a virtuous and reform-minded citizen—ethically and professionally, spiritually and materially, intellectually and ideologically—based on religious values, is central to our vision and approach.
Our understanding of the relationship between religion and society is guided by the following principles:

* Religion is a personal and voluntary choice; no entity or group may impose or reject it.
Religion is tied to faith, governed by divine laws, and reflected in moral conduct.

* Despite their differences, all religions share a common thread of promoting universal human values.
This makes shared values more important than differing religious rulings.

* All citizens must be equal regardless of religion, sect, or denomination.
Virtue is measured by good deeds in service of humanity and the nation.

* Freedom of religion and belief must be protected, as should followers of all faiths—from both internal authoritarian interference and external destabilization.

* Religion must not be exploited by political authorities or manipulated by security agencies.

* The Syrian state, as a legal entity, must not be aligned with any religion.
It must protect all religious communities, respect their specificities, and ensure freedom to practice their rituals and follow their laws—enabling them to harmonize their faith with civic life.

* Religious differences and their resulting legal distinctions must be managed through dialogue and consensus via a freely elected parliament, which reflects the people’s will and provides the most legitimate platform for societal governance.

* We encourage regular gatherings of Syrian religious leaders—Muslims (of all sects) and non-Muslims (of all denominations)—to explore common values and incorporate them into a national social contract as a necessary civilizational choice for achieving peace and civil harmony.

* We view religious diversity in Syria as a positive and enriching social factor, provided that beliefs are respected and no group is targeted or attacked for its faith.
