Freedom

"This paper explores the concept of "freedom" as a sacred human right and foundational value for Syria's post-dictatorship future".

The Syrian regime deliberately leaned on the term “freedom,” making it one of its shining slogans repeated by the vanguards of its party and its members, without any social, religious, or even political reality.

We believe that freedom and determinism cannot be separated under any circumstance.

The human being is capable of doing both good and evil, and their awareness manifests in their daily actions, including in political life.

We believe that any attempt to restrict or limit the exercise of freedom without a free law enacted by an elected parliament is a form of tyranny that must be rejected and condemned.

We believe that freedom is a noble principle.

The Syrian people were able to reclaim it through their revolution in 2011, as a necessary and inherent right of every individual citizen.

It had long been hijacked by the Assad regime, which failed to realize it in practice during the eras of both Assad the father and the son.

We believe that freedom is the gateway to fulfilling human dignity.

There is no humanity without free will, and no free will without full and complete freedom.

We believe that freedom is an honorable and lofty principle, immune to the distortion of tyrants or the excesses of the permissive.

Freedom in the homeland is not a license for immorality or corruption.

It is not a cover for the strong to oppress the weak, nor a tool to demolish ethics.

Rather, it is the realization of rationality, which distinguishes the human being from all other creatures.

We attach great importance to the political community and its role in upholding the principle of freedom and protecting it by organizing human life around the foundations of truth, goodness, and beauty.

We believe that freedom is everything permitted by free law ratified by a nationally elected parliament.

We believe that freedom is the union of choice and will.

It is not subject to the desires of a tyrant or despot, but to the just law that regulates citizens' lives within the nation.

We believe that freedom is a divine gift from the Creator to His creation.

It must never be denied or suspended under any circumstances or for any reason.

We believe that a people who possess true freedom are capable of transforming it into a foundation upon which they rise toward perfection in their homeland and society, rather than allowing it to become a tool of destruction and ruin.

We believe that freedom is not opposed to ethics.

It is the foundation of social morality, a condition for a developed societal structure, a driver of civilizational progress, and the basis for the independence of a society that governs itself and its destiny.

We believe that freedom is like the breath that sustains a human.

It liberates people from the chains of ignorance, darkness, and tribalism exploited by tyrants to dominate lives and claim control over the fate of others.

We fight all forms of slavery and subjugation—whether to a ruler, a tyrant, a despot, or a charlatan—whether direct or disguised, using the weapon of freedom.

Human beings were created free, and upon that, their lives and destinies revolve.

We believe that religious freedom is the first building block in defusing social division, and that religious reform is the first step in reforming the structure of society as a whole.

We believe that political freedom is essential to strengthening an individual’s sense of belonging to their society and homeland.

Any hijacking or manipulation of it has disastrous consequences for both nation and citizen.

We believe that political freedom must be full and uncompromised.

It must allow for participation in the political sphere through the formation of movements, parties, and groups, provided that their loyalty is to the homeland alone.

We believe that national freedom means independence from all forms of occupation and foreign guardianship, and the rejection of any current or future intervention that could hijack Syria’s national decision-making.

We believe that the distortions we see today in the liberated areas are not products of freedom itself, but rather results of war and the struggle against tyranny.

The only solution lies in correcting the course of freedom, deepening its understanding, and strengthening its practice both in form and substance.

We believe that the root of the Syrian crisis lies in the absence of political freedom due to repression and coercion, and the disconnect between civil liberty and human rights.

We believe in the necessity of establishing economic freedom through the right to own property, the freedom of workers to choose their jobs, and the freedom of people to save and invest their money.
